Is it just me, or does the world need more Alan Cumming dramatically intoning Shakespeare while reality TV contestants plot betrayals amidst a flurry of fireballs? Apparently, Peacock thinks so, because The Traitors is back for a third season, premiering Tuesday, January 9, 2024, and the just-dropped teaser is here.
The minute-long preview opens with Cumming, resplendent as always and quoting Macbeth – “Something wicked this way comes” – and frankly, who are we to argue? The trailer then descends into a rapid-fire montage of ominous imagery: roaring flames, cloaked figures, a slithering serpent, and enough side-eye to fuel a thousand suspicion-laden dinner parties. But the real star of this twisted carnival is the cast. It’s a reality TV all-star team, a veritable rogues’ gallery of personalities culled from Survivor, Big Brother, Real Housewives, and Bachelor Nation, among others. We’ve got Bob Harper, ready to outwit, outplay, and outlast. Carolyn Wiger, bringing her infectious energy and endearing vulnerability. Britney Haynes, the strategic mastermind, back for more.
And that’s just the tip of the reality iceberg. The cast also features the likes of Bob the Drag Queen, Chrishell Stause, Tom Sandoval, Sam Asghari, Danielle Reyes, Gabby Windey, Chanel Ayan, Ciara Miller, Dolores Catania, Dorinda Medley, Dylan Efron, Jeremy Collins, British Royal Lord Ivar Mountbatten, Nikki Garcia, “Boston” Rob Mariano, Robyn Dixon, Tony Vlachos, and Wells Adams. It’s a melting pot of personalities, a recipe for either brilliant gameplay or utter chaos. Honestly, I’m here for either.
Some of these reality titans will be early casualties, their treachery (or loyalty) exposed within the first few episodes. Certain personalities dominate, leaving others scrambling to form alliances and second guess themselves.
Peacock’s confidence in the format is evident, with the streamer already renewing The Traitors for a fourth and fifth season. Clearly, they see a winning formula in this high-stakes blend of social deduction and dramatic flair. And with Cumming at the helm, delivering lines like “One of you… is a traitor” with Shakespearean gravitas, who can blame them?
