Picture a Britain where parents face legal consequences for their children’s wrongdoings. This is the premise of Channel 5’s new drama, “The Trial,” airing this Thursday. In 2035, Dione (Claire Skinner) and David Sinclair (Ben Miles) face this harsh reality when their daughter Teah (India Fowler) commits a terrible crime.
Under Milligan’s Law, parents are held responsible for their children’s actions. The Sinclairs find themselves before the Office of Judicial Inquisition, a new branch of the Ministry of Justice. With no legal counsel or jury, they must answer to Judicial Inquisitor Sarah Willis (Saoirse-Monica Jackson).
Facing a life sentence for a crime they did not directly commit, Dione and David must defend their character and question the limits of parental responsibility. “The Trial” explores complex questions of guilt and accountability. Tune in to Channel 5 on Thursday, 8 May at 9:00 PM.
