Bruce Parry, known for immersing himself in the cultures of remote and isolated communities, continues his journey this Sunday on BBC Two. In “The Mucubal,” Parry travels to Angola’s unforgiving Namib Desert, one of the driest places on Earth, to live with the Mucubal people. How do they manage to carve out an existence in such an extreme environment? That’s the question Parry seeks to answer.
Staying with a family of 30, Parry takes part in the daily life of the Mucubal, observing their visceral rituals and gaining a deeper understanding of their unique culture. Their isolation has shielded them from many of the pressures of the modern world, allowing them to maintain traditions that have been passed down through generations. But for how much longer can they hold on? “The Mucubal” raises important questions about the future of these fragile cultures in an increasingly connected world.
“Tribe with Bruce Parry: The Mucubal” airs Sunday, April 6 at 9:00 PM on BBC Two.
