True Crime DocuSeries “Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein” Set for MGM+
James Buddy Day (Blumhouse’s Compendium of Horror, Fall River) directs and executive produces the true-crime docuseries Psycho: The Lost Tapes of Ed Gein, which MGM+ announced today it has picked up for a four-part run. In September, it will debut on MGM+.
What is the series about
Ed Gein, aka “The Plainfield Ghoul” and “The Mad Butcher,” is the subject of this MGM+ original docuseries. His crimes served as inspiration for such classics as Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs.
With new revelations and previously unheard recordings, viewers will be immersed in Gein’s perverse mind and transported to late 1950s Middle America, where filmmakers, journalists, and scholars have spent years trying to unravel Gein’s mind. With the new information provided by the recordings, the series delves into Gein’s childhood and twisted relationship with his mother (which famously inspired Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho), his early grave robbing, the murders leading up to his arrest, and the discovery by police of his terrifying house of horrors.
Who is making the series
Jill Latiano Howerton and Josh Kunau also serve as executive producers for Roots Productions. Amazon & MGM Studios Distribution will distribute the series internationally.
