Some of us would watch Stanley Tucci read a phone book. Fortunately, National Geographic has provided something far more appealing. “Tucci in Italy,” a new five-part series, begins this Sunday, and it’s a love letter to Italian food, culture, and, well, Stanley Tucci eating delicious things.
The premiere episode, “Tuscany,” takes us to the birthplace of the Renaissance, a region known for its artistic creativity – not just in painting and sculpture, but in the kitchen as well. Tucci returns to Florence, where he lived for a year as a child, and samples a rather unusual breakfast dish (we’ll leave the surprise unspoiled). Later, he spends time with Tuscan cowboys on a ranch, culminating in a spectacular outdoor feast in Siena, timed to coincide with the Palio, a traditional horse race held twice a year.
With Tucci’s trademark wit and charm, and National Geographic’s typically breathtaking cinematography, “Tucci in Italy” isn’t just a cooking show; it’s a travelogue for the soul. Expect insightful conversations with locals, chefs, food lovers, and artisans, all contributing to a deeper understanding of what makes Italian cuisine so unique.
“Tucci in Italy: Tuscany” premieres Sunday, May 18th at 8:00 PM ET on National Geographic.
