Two New Movies Based on Ann Rule Novels Coming to Lifetime This February
The premiere dates for A Rose for Her Grave: The Randy Roth Story (also known as A Rose for Her Grave) and 12 Desperate Hours (FKA Desperate Hours). on Lifetime have been confirmed. These two movies are Lifetime’s latest foray into true crime, following in the footsteps of its Ripped from the Headlines series and its Life & Crime unscripted series.
The movies, based on works by Ann Rule, a best-selling author of true crime books, debut in February. Chrishell Stause (Selling Sunset, Days of Our Lives), Colin Egglesfield (Something Borrowed, The Client List), and Laura Ramsey (She’s the Man) star in A Rose for Her Grave: The Randy Roth Story, which chronicles the crimes of serial wife-killer Randy Roth and the courageous woman who brings him to justice.
Gina Gershon makes her feature length directorial debut with 12 Desperate Hours. Samantha Mathis (Billions), Harrison Thomas (Better Call Saul), and David Conrad (Ghost Whisperer) star.
A ROSE FOR HER GRAVE: THE RANDY ROTH STORY

After her husband dies, single mother Cindy (Laura Ramsey) marries mechanic Randy Roth (Colin Egglesfield), but her happiness is short-lived as she quickly learns that Randy has a horrible secret. Cindy’s best friend Lori (Chrishell Stause) begs her to leave her husband, but she drowns while on a lake excursion with Randy and the kids, so she never has the chance. Randy is unaffected by Cindy’s death; he demands that she be cremated right away, gets custody of their son, and pursues the life insurance payout. Lori digs more into Randy’s past and learns that Cindy may not have been the first wife he murdered in order to get Cindy’s son away from his dishonest stepfather.
12 DESPERATE HOURS

12 Desperate Hours, based on Ann Rule’s collection of true crime stories titled Last Chance, Last Dance, centres on Val (Samantha Mathis), a mother who is kept captive by Denny (Harrison Thomas) when he breaks into her house after committing a murder earlier that day. Val offers to drive Denny wherever he wants, becoming an unwilling collaborator in his rampage of devastation, to save them and her husband Mark (David Conrad), who was due home at any minute. Despite the pain she’s experienced, Val befriends her captor and utilises their bond to save not just herself but also bystanders and ultimately their captor’s life.
A Rose For Her Grave: The Randy Roth Story and 12 Desperate Hours are both produced by Allegheny Image Factory and Best On Best. Conor Allyn and Benjamin Anderson serve as executive producers and Jeffrey Tinnell, Robert Tinnell, and John Michaels serve as producers for the films. Allyn and Anderson wrote both scripts. A Rose For Her Grave: The Randy Roth Story is directed by Maritte Go and 12 Desperate Hours is directed by Gina Gershon.
