This Saturday, TCM’s “Two for One” offers a monstrous double feature for classic horror fans. The episode features two takes on the Frankenstein story – James Whale’s iconic 1931 film “Frankenstein,” and the 1957 Hammer horror classic “The Curse of Frankenstein,” starring Peter Cushing as Victor Frankenstein and Christopher Lee as the Creature. For this pairing, host Ben Mankiewicz is joined by director John Carpenter.
These films represent pivotal moments in horror cinema. Whale’s “Frankenstein,” adapted from Peggy Webling’s 1927 play, gave the world indelible images of Boris Karloff’s monster. “The Curse of Frankenstein,” Hammer’s first foray into color horror, upped the ante with its vivid depiction of gothic horror. Carpenter will offer commentary on the double feature’s cultural impact, backstories, and personal insights.
“Two for One” airs Saturday, May 17 at 8:00 PM ET on TCM.
