Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living “Where’s My Refund?” (BET, Tuesday, December 3, 2024)

Tyler Perry's Assisted Living Key Art

Money, as they say, can’t buy happiness, but it can certainly buy a whole lot of squabbling. This week on Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living, a surprise IRS refund check throws Jeremy and Leah’s financial planning – or lack thereof – into hilarious disarray. The windfall, rather than being a blessing, becomes a bone of contention, as the couple locks horns over how best to use the unexpected cash. Will it be a much-needed home improvement, a splurge they’ve been putting off, or the seed money for Jeremy’s next ill-fated get-rich-quick scheme? Knowing Jeremy, probably the latter.

Elsewhere in Wilson’s Shady Acres Assisted Living, Anastasia and Vinny find themselves grappling with the complexities of seventh-grade science. Theodore, apparently a budding Einstein in the making, needs assistance with his studies, and his caregivers quickly discover they’re in over their heads. One can only imagine the comedic chaos that ensues when these two attempt to explain photosynthesis or dissect a frog (hopefully not literally).

Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living, for the uninitiated, centers on Jeremy, a man whose life takes an unexpected detour when he loses his job. Relocating his family to rural Georgia, Jeremy finds himself tasked with helping his grandfather, Vinny, run the less-than-stellar assisted living facility he somehow acquired. Add to the mix the formidable Mr. Brown and his ever-present sidekick, Cora, both of whom invested in Wilson’s Shady Acres expecting stellar returns, and you have a recipe for sitcom gold. The show’s fifth season continues to deliver the blend of family troubles and broad humor that fans have come to expect.
