Comedian Retta is back on the road for HGTV, continuing her cross-country tour of architecturally challenged homes in a new episode of Ugliest House in America. Airing Monday, June 16 at 9 PM ET, this installment, titled New Ugly in New England, finds Retta visiting three properties vying for the dubious honor of being the region’s worst.
The contenders are a colorful trio of design disasters. There’s a house completely overtaken by its owner’s art projects, a former church that comes with a terrifying hole, and a once-glamorous home whose owner remains in denial about its current state of disrepair. Each homeowner is hoping to win a $150,000 renovation from designer Alison Victoria, who will surprise the eventual winner with a much-needed makeover.
Now in its sixth season, the show’s formula remains as sturdy as ever. Retta’s commentary provides a humorous running dialogue as she tours each property, poking fun at questionable design choices while maintaining a good-natured rapport with the homeowners.
Only one house can be crowned the ugliest, earning its owner a shot at redemption. The series continues to be a reliable source of entertainment for those who appreciate a good home renovation story, especially one that starts from a place of such profound ugliness.
