This Sunday, Channel 7 will premiere a brand new UK docuseries called Lockerbie. Spanning four episodes, the series delves into the tragic events of the air crash terrorist attack that occurred in 1988. It offers firsthand accounts from individuals who were directly involved in the incident.

The premiere will consist of a double episode, providing viewers with an immersive introduction to the devastating event. The quiet farming community of Lockerbie was forever changed on the night of December 21st, 1988. A powerful explosion rocked a residential street, sending debris falling from the skies for miles around. Local residents recount their shock and confusion as they witnessed what appeared to be a plane crash. Their distress deepened as they discovered bodies, some still seated in airline chairs, strewn across their gardens and fields.

Meanwhile, relatives of those aboard Pan Am Flight 103 received heartbreaking news via television and radio broadcasts. With phone lines jammed, they faced agonizing hours without confirmation of their loved ones’ fates. Driven by grief and determination to see his daughter’s body, Dr. Jim Swire embarked on a journey to Lockerbie where her remains were being held in a temporary mortuary at the town’s ice rink.

Jim’s quest for truth began as it emerged that the plane had been brought down by a bomb. Iran became prime suspects due to their public vow for revenge after an accidental downing of an Iran Air passenger flight by the US Navy in July 1988. This revelation sparked an extensive criminal investigation that uncovered fragments of a suitcase believed to have contained the explosive device.
