It appears the Hoagie brothers and their crew are about to face a challenge far more daunting than automated hot dog production. In this week’s “Universal Basic Guys,” a Jumanji-esque board game threatens to test their friendships in ways no amount of Universal Basic Income can fix.
One can only imagine the chaos that will ensue when Mark, Tammy, Hank, and Darren are forced to confront their “interpersonal differences” while trapped in a magical game. Will they emerge victorious, or will their bonds be fractured like a dropped hoagie?
Meanwhile, series creator David faces his own existential crisis in the form of writer’s block. Seeking solace (and presumably a thesaurus) in the Poconos, he’s hoping to conquer his looming deadline. Is the tranquility of the mountains enough to break through his creative jam, or will the pressure of the empty page drive him to madness? Perhaps he’ll stumble upon a magical board game of his own.
“Poconos” seems to be setting up both hilarious mishaps and some potentially insightful reflections on purpose and creativity. Let’s just hope nobody gets turned into a sausage.
