BBC One marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a special broadcast this Thursday, blending historical remembrance with a celebratory concert. Live from Horse Guards Parade in London, the event will evoke the spirit of the jubilant parties that erupted across the nation on VE Day in 1945.
Hosted by Zoe Ball, the concert will feature a live orchestra performing iconic songs from the era, including “The White Cliffs of Dover” and “We’ll Meet Again.” But the music is only part of the story. Interspersed with the performances, veterans will share their personal recollections of VE Day, offering firsthand accounts of love, loss, and the resilience of the human spirit. Before the concert, Sophie Raworth will broadcast live from St James’s Park with interviews and special guests.
The program intends to capture the blend of relief, joy, and somber reflection that defined VE Day, a pivotal moment in modern history. Tune in to BBC One this Thursday, 8 May at 8:00 PM GMT for “VE Day 80: A Celebration to Remember.”
