The Swedish action-fantasy series “Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter” will premiere in the US on November 21, Viaplay has announced.
The series, titled “Ronja Rövardotter” in Swedish, is based on the classic fantasy novel by Astrid Lindgren, author of the “Pippi Longstocking” books. The story follows Ronja, played by Kerstin Linden, a spirited girl born into a gang of robbers in a medieval Scandinavian castle. As she grows up, Ronja explores a mystical forest filled with mysterious creatures such as wile-wings and gray dwarfs. She forms a forbidden friendship with Birk, a boy from a rival gang, while a bailiff aims to eradicate the robbers.
“Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter” will be available as a six-episode series on Viaplay partner channels, including Viaplay on Prime Video Channels, in both English-subtitled and English-dubbed versions.
The series features a cast including Christopher Wagelin, Krista Kosonen, Sverrir Gudnason, Maria Nohra, Pernilla August, Vera Vitali, and Johan Ulveson.
Written by Hans Rosenfeldt, creator of “The Bridge” and “Marcella,” the show has been praised as one of the most ambitious Nordic series ever. It previously premiered on Netflix outside the US, reaching the Top 10 in 15 countries and becoming the top TV series in Sweden.
