Viaplay’s Swedish Drama “The Street Where I Live” Looks at Love and Community

The Street Where I Live Key Art

Viaplay’s new Swedish drama, The Street Where I Live, starring Lena Philipsson (currently performing with Roxette), will premiere in the US on April 3, 2025. The six-part series explores a seemingly ideal suburban neighborhood where relationships are put to the test.

Here’s the Lowdown: Nina (Philipsson), a shop owner and single mother, is the central figure in her neighborhood, still dealing with the death of her husband four years earlier. When she connects with a carpenter, Richard (Ilkka Villi), a new relationship begins, affecting not only her own life but also the lives of her family and neighbors in surprising ways.

What This Means Now: This series explores themes of love, loss, and community bonds within a familiar setting. It presents a narrative about working through grief, finding new relationships, and the far-reaching effects of personal decisions.

The Bigger Picture: The Street Where I Live is based on Philipsson’s popular song with the same title. Philipsson, a well-known musical artist in Sweden, is currently on tour internationally with Roxette. The series is directed by Lena Koppel and produced by Viaplay Studios. The series provides a cast that many will find they can identify with, and dramatic events that affect an entire community.
