Netflix is throwing another log on the reality TV bonfire with “W.A.G.S to Riches,” a docu-soap set to premiere Wednesday, January 22, 2025. The series aims to flip the script on the tired “wives and girlfriends” trope, following a group of women in Miami connected to the city’s elite athletes, musicians, and power brokers. These aren’t just ladies who lunch; they’re building businesses, juggling motherhood, and, in some cases, out-earning their famous partners.
While the acronym “WAGS” might conjure images of red carpets and diamond-encrusted accessories, “W.A.G.S to Riches” claims it’s interested in more than just surface glitz. The series will reportedly focus on the women’s individual careers and the unique challenges they face balancing their ambitions with the demands of high-profile relationships. Of course, this being reality TV, there will undoubtedly be a healthy dose of interpersonal drama, rivalries, and possibly a few strategically placed tears.
Will “W.A.G.S to Riches” offer a genuine glimpse into the lives of these women, or will it simply reinforce existing stereotypes? Can the show avoid the pitfalls of manufactured drama and deliver something resembling actual insight? Viewers will have to tune in to find out. Though, frankly, the odds of substantive character development seem slim. But hey, if you’re looking for a dose of escapism with a side of Miami sunshine, this might be just the ticket.
“W.A.G.S. to Riches” airs Wednesdays at 3:01 AM-4:00 AM EST on Netflix.
“W.A.G.S. to Riches” is produced by Wheelhouse’s Spoke Studios. Executive producers include Rasheed J. Daniel, Liz Fine, and Gardner Reed.
