Daryl’s European vacation, if you can call it that, seems to be nearing its end. “Au Revoir Les Enfants” suggests an exit strategy is on the horizon, though with this franchise, a clean getaway is about as likely as finding fresh baguettes in the apocalypse.
The extremely brief summary hints at an attempt to leave France, but leaves much to speculation. Will Daryl finally find a way back to the States? Or will some new obstacle – a walker horde with a penchant for berets, perhaps, or a bureaucratic snafu involving expired visas – keep him trapped on the continent?
Given the show’s recent uptick in quality, it’s reasonable to hope for something more interesting than a straightforward escape.
Knowing Daryl, any attempt to leave will likely involve a healthy dose of brooding, crossbow action, and possibly some awkward attempts at French. Let’s just hope this isn’t another fake-out departure. We’ve seen enough of those in the Walking Dead universe to last a lifetime, or at least until the next spin-off.
