In the third and final episode of Warship: Life in the Royal Navy, JJ Chalmers faces a gruelling challenge as he returns to the Marine Commando Training Centre, where his military career began 18 years ago.
Despite injuries sustained in Afghanistan, JJ takes on the Endurance Course again—a demanding 6.5-mile run through mud, bogs, tunnels, and obstacles. Will he be able to draw on his physical and mental strength to complete the course?
Meanwhile, JJ explores the future of naval warfare by visiting the Royal Navy’s Navy X department, which tests cutting-edge weapons. He gets hands-on with remote-controlled technology, driving an attack boat equipped with a mechanised machine gun and learning about the use of drones in the Ukraine conflict.
As Julia Bradbury’s time on HMS Prince of Wales comes to a close, she assists the crew in preparing to enter a foreign port, concluding their epic journey. Julia then visits HMS Belfast, a famous warship from World War II that now rests on the River Thames as a museum. She meets veterans who share their experiences of life aboard the ship during the war.
JJ also explores the history of the Mary Rose, a Tudor warship that sailed during Henry VIII’s reign. He visits the museum dedicated to the ship, learning about the lives of Tudor sailors and the mysteries surrounding its sinking off the coast of Portsmouth.
