It’s Lifetime, it’s December, therefore it must be Christmas movie time. And what says “festive cheer” more than a kidnapping plot thrown into the mix? This year, Lifetime offers “You Better Watch Out,” a tale of holiday travel gone very, very wrong. Our protagonist, Aubrey, finds her Christmas Eve trip to Chicago for her sister’s blessed event derailed by a blizzard. Ah, the unpredictability of air travel, especially around the holidays. Instead of cozying up by the fire with a mug of hot cocoa, she’s stuck at a small-town airport, facing a far more harrowing scenario. While others are humming carols, Aubrey’s thrown headlong into a kidnapping drama, attempting a daring rescue of a young girl also trapped at the airport.
Aubrey’s spontaneous heroics seem poised to bring a tense energy to an otherwise traditional setting. Let’s hope the writers have managed to create characters with believable motivations because nothing ruins suspense faster than illogical actions driven by plot convenience.
Will “You Better Watch Out” deliver a genuinely thrilling experience, or will it collapse under the weight of its own far-fetched premise? Only time will tell, but hopefully, Lifetime has a stocking full of surprises in store.
“You Better Watch Out” premieres Thursday, December 5 at 8/7c on Lifetime.
