CBS’s medical drama “Watson” takes a detour into Sherlock Holmes territory this Sunday with “A Variant of Unknown Significance.” When a young man suffering from temporary paralysis is admitted to UHOP (Universal Health Organization Project), Dr. Watson finds himself treating not just a patient, but the son of an old acquaintance of Sherlock Holmes: Irene Adler, played by Whoopie Van Raam.

The reunion with a figure from Holmes’s past complicates the medical mystery, as Watson and his team race to diagnose and treat young Angus. What caused his sudden paralysis? Is it a rare genetic disorder, an environmental factor, or something more nefarious? As they pursue various leads, the presence of Irene Adler serves as a tangible link to the world Watson left behind, a world of deduction, intrigue, and the shadow of his brilliant but troubled former partner.
