The Way Home “Live and Let Die” (Hallmark Channel, Friday, January 17, 2025)

Time travel shenanigans are back on the menu as “The Way Home” returns to Hallmark for its third season. In “Live and Let Die,” the Landry women find themselves grappling with the thorny issue of family secrets – because what’s a time-travel drama without a healthy dose of cryptic past events? It seems asking the right questions is harder than it looks, a lesson Kat, Alice, and Del are about to learn the hard way.

Meanwhile, Del is wrestling with some unsettling changes on the home front, while Elliot embarks on a personal quest to decode his enigmatic father. As usual, the series continues to weave together the stories of three generations of Landry women, connected by their unusual ability to skip through time like it’s a lightly used trampoline. Will these temporal gymnastics finally lead to some concrete answers, or just more paradoxes? Friday night’s episode might offer a clue or two.

Let’s be clear: the time travel aspect of “The Way Home” isn’t exactly “hard sci-fi.” It’s more of a narrative device to explore family dynamics and the ripple effects of choices across generations. This episode seems particularly focused on that theme, as the Landry women confront the consequences of unspoken truths and half-remembered histories. While the show occasionally leans into the sentimental, it also avoids the saccharine trap that often plagues Hallmark productions.

The cast manages to ground the more fantastical elements with relatable portrayals of family struggles, making the time-hopping premise surprisingly palatable. Whether this season can maintain that balance remains to be seen, but “Live and Let Die” at least sets the stage for an engaging exploration of familial bonds and the burdens of legacy.

“The Way Home” airs Fridays at 9:00 PM on Hallmark Channel.
