WE tv's Love After Lockup Innocent After Lockup Premieres December 15

WE tv has announced a new limited series called “Love After Lockup: Innocent After Lockup.” The three-episode special will premiere on December 15, 2023, at 10:30pm exclusively on WE tv. The series follows exonerees who were falsely accused and convicted of crimes they did not commit.

Each episode focuses on a different exoneree who spent between 15 and 22 years in a maximum-security penitentiary before being proven innocent. These exonerees are currently in the process of suing the state or federal government for financial compensation for their wrongful imprisonment.

Between 1989 and 2021, there were over 2,800 documented exonerations in the United States, with an average of 32 per year. In 2022, there was a significant increase in exonerations, with 238 cases, a 644% increase. “Love After Lockup: Innocent After Lockup” aims to personalize these statistics by sharing the personal journeys of three exonerees who fought for over a decade to clear their names and are now fighting for compensation.

The series will also feature the families of the exonerees, including their wives and girlfriends who supported them throughout their wrongful incarceration and are now navigating the process of reintegration into society and seeking justice.

The exonerees featured in the series include Taron Hill from Raleigh, NC, who was wrongfully convicted of a double homicide in 2004 and spent 16.5 years in prison before being exonerated; Calvin Buari from Houston, TX, who was sentenced to 50 years to life for a double homicide in 1995 and spent 22 years in prison before being exonerated; and Ru-El Sailor from Cleveland, Ohio, who was sentenced to 28 years to life for a murder he did not commit and was exonerated 15 years later.
