Ah, Saturday night. A time for gentle relaxation, quiet contemplation, and watching former Gladiators mercilessly mock each other on national television. Yes, it’s a “Gladiators” special on “The Weakest Link,” and things are about to get… well, probably quite awkward.
Romesh Ranganathan presides over the chaos as a motley crew of lycra-clad legends—Bionic, Sabre, Giant, Diamond, Fire, and Athena—step out of the arena and into the quizzing ring. Joining them are referee Mark Clattenburg and commentator Guy Mowbray, presumably there to ensure nobody throws a pugil stick at Romesh when he inevitably makes a sarcastic comment.
With a £50,000 charity prize up for grabs, the competition is sure to be fierce. But let’s be real, the real entertainment will be watching these titans of physical prowess struggle to remember the capital of Belgium. Or what year the Battle of Hastings took place. Or, you know, anything that doesn’t involve spandex and foam-padded obstacles.
Only one can be crowned the strongest link, and frankly, I haven’t the faintest idea who it might be. But one thing’s for sure: this promises to be a gloriously silly hour of television.
