West End Murders: Eve Stratford (Crime & Investigation, Monday, 30 September 2024)

True Crime

The unsolved murder of Eve Stratford, a young “bunny girl” from London, is the focus of the latest episode of West End Murders. Eve, who worked as a cocktail waitress in a Mayfair club, was found with her throat cut and her hands tied. The brutal murder took place in 1975, and despite efforts, the original investigative team exhausted all leads by 1976.

In 2004, a review of the case resulted in the recovery of a DNA profile from Eve’s clothing, which was linked to the unidentified killer of 16-year-old Lynne Weedon, murdered in 1975. This discovery, made possible by new DNA technology in 2007, revealed that the same person murdered both Eve and Lynne.

Both cases gained public attention through a 2007 appeal on BBC’s Crimewatch, and a £40,000 reward for information leading to the killer remains on offer. Despite this, the cases remain unsolved.

The episode looks into the investigations, following former Met Police DCI Colin Sutton and his team as they examine the link between the murders of Eve, Lynda Farrow, and Lynne, revealing the potential presence of a serial killer who went unnoticed for decades.
