What We Do in the Shadows “The Promotion” (FX, Monday, December 9, 2024)

What We Do in the Shadows Key Art

In the immortal words of someone who probably isn’t a vampire, “Work sucks.” But what if your workplace is populated by creatures of the night and your boss just got a big promotion? That’s the surprisingly relatable premise of the upcoming What We Do in the Shadows episode, “The Promotion,” airing Monday, December 9th.

Guillermo, the long-suffering familiar, finally ascends the corporate ladder, which, in this case, may involve climbing over a pile of dusty coffins. His newfound success forces Nandor, Laszlo, Nadja, and Colin Robinson to confront the horrors of… an office party. Yes, the vampires who fear sunlight and garlic must now brave lukewarm hors d’oeuvres and awkward small talk. The potential for cringe comedy is, shall we say, high.

While the series has consistently delivered laughs by throwing its supernatural cast into mundane situations, “The Promotion” presents a fresh spin on the fish-out-of-water trope. This time, the vampires aren’t just trying to blend in with modern society; they’re attempting to decipher the baffling rituals of corporate culture. Will they understand the subtle art of the “casual Friday” dress code? Can they resist the urge to drain the punch bowl (or, worse, the regional manager)?

“The Promotion” looks to bring the usual Shadows blend of quirky humor and macabre absurdity. Written by Jake Bender, Zach Dunn, Amelia Haller, William Meny and Lauren Wells and directed by Kyle Newacheck, this tenth episode of season six could be the most human – and therefore, the most horrifying – installment yet. Don’t miss the undead office antics when “The Promotion” airs Monday, December 9, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
