January 20 – 26: Crave Weekly Streaming Overview

Coming up on Canadian streamer Crave in the next week…

JANUARY 27 – HBO Max’s TAKE OUT WITH LISA LING *Season 1*

What’s on
When it comes to choosing where to eat out, Chinese, Indian, or Japanese food, is as ubiquitous as pizza and burgers. These days, there are Asian restaurants in practically every mall food court and Main Street across the United States, yet little is known about the diverse communities behind them. In TAKE OUT WITH LISA LING, award-winning journalist Lisa Ling — who’s own family story began in a Chinese restaurant — travels from the bayous of Louisiana to Orange County’s Little Saigon, exploring the foods we love, while shining a long overdue spotlight on the contributions Asian Americans have been making to the United States, since before it was even the United States. All six episodes of the HBO Max Original docuseries drop on Thursday, Jan. 27.

JANUARY 28 – BLACK BODIES *Canadian Short Film Premiere*

From director Kelly Fyffe-Marshall, the critically acclaimed Canadian short film BLACK BODIES premieres Friday, Jan. 28 and is featured in Crave’s Black Excellence Collection. Inspired by a real-life incident experienced by Fyffe-Marshall, Komi Olaf, and Donisha Prendergast while travelling in California, after a woman called the police because she wrongly believed they were burglarizing their short-term rental. The film features Olaf and Prendergast performing spoken word pieces about the trauma of being victimized by anti-Black racism.

JANUARY 28 – THE CONGREGATION *Season 1*

All six episodes of the Swedish drama series THE CONGREGATION, drop Friday, Jan. 28. In the summer of 1999, soul-searching Anna moves to Knutby, Sweden, to start her new life in the tight-knit Pentecostal community. There is something extraordinary about Knutby, the leadership within the congregation “knows” that the Second Coming of Christ will occur in their little village. And when Christ returns, he will take his bride. Slowly, the idyllic facade that surrounds the Congregation begins to disintegrate, revealing a cult and sinister web of intrigue, in which a deeply rooted and dangerous devotion to faith drives Anna to kill in the name of the Lord.
