The quaint seaside town of Whitstable, usually more associated with oysters than assassinations, finds itself at the center of a double dose of deadly drama in the season three finale of Whitstable Pearl. Forget gentle waves and charming pubs; “Someone Like Me” serves up a murder and a near-miss that would make Agatha Christie reach for an extra gin and tonic.
First, a taxi driver is found shot dead, a single bullet to the head suggesting something more sinister than a robbery gone wrong. Meanwhile, an investment banker – because of course there’s an investment banker – narrowly avoids becoming Whitstable’s latest statistic, dodging a bullet intended to cut his career, and life, tragically short. Coincidence? Pearl, portrayed with her usual world-weary charm by Kerry Godliman, highly doubts it.
As Pearl digs into the seemingly disparate cases, the lines between victim and perpetrator, coincidence and conspiracy, begin to blur faster than the coastal fog rolling in on a chilly November evening. With a knack for uncovering secrets hidden beneath Whitstable’s picturesque veneer, Pearl must deal with a web of local rivalries, shady financial dealings, and perhaps even a touch of international intrigue to prevent the charming town from becoming a full-blown crime hotspot.
Will she connect the dots before another life is lost? Or will the killer (or killers?) slip away with the tide, leaving Whitstable forever tainted by the shadow of unsolved crimes? Tune in to find out.
Whitstable Pearl airs Mondays at 3:01 AM EST on Acorn TV.
