The acclaimed genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are? is back for its 22nd series on BBC One and iPlayer this Spring, featuring a star-studded lineup ready to explore their family histories.
Here’s the Lowdown: Eight celebrities, including Andrew Garfield, Diane Morgan, Ross Kemp, Aisling Bea, Will Young, Fred Sirieix, Layton Williams, and Mishal Husain, will trace their ancestries, with discoveries spanning almost 800 years. The series, produced by Wall to Wall Media, will take to locations across the UK and around the world including Jamaica, Morocco, India, Poland, Germany, Ireland, the USA and France.
What This Means Now: Expect emotional revelations, surprising connections, and dramatic historical backdrops. Andrew Garfield’s story, for example, moves from pre-War Poland to a Nazi death camp and then to early Hollywood. Diane Morgan finds a poignant love story. Ross Kemp ends up in Casablanca, and finds out about a military ancestor.
The Bigger Picture: This series highlights the personal stories behind major historical events. From wartime experiences (Will Young’s grandfather as a World War Two pilot, Kemp’s ancestor in the Napoleonic wars) to struggles for independence (Aisling Bea’s Irish roots) and even royal connections (Will Young), the show reveals how individual lives intersect with broader historical narratives. The show returns to BBC One and iPlayer this Spring.
