SBS’s enduringly popular “Who Do You Think You Are?” returns for its 16th season, ready to unearth more familial skeletons – and perhaps a few hidden heroes – from the closets of prominent Australians. This time around, eight well-known figures embark on genealogical odysseys, beginning with actor Claudia Karvan.

Karvan’s episode, airing Tuesday, May 13th at 7:30 PM AEST, explores the life of her free-spirited grandmother, a woman whose independent streak clearly runs in the family. But it’s the mystery surrounding her great-grandfather, a shadowy figure branded the family’s “black sheep,” that truly fuels Karvan’s quest.

Her search takes her across continents – from England to Cyprus and finally to New Zealand – as she painstakingly pieces together her family’s puzzle. Along the way, she confronts tales of both tragedy and courage, adding depth and nuance to her understanding of her heritage. The investigation into her great-grandfather’s past seems to be emotionally charged, with hints of long-held family secrets finally coming to light.
