Musical theatre star Layton Williams takes a personal journey into his family history on this week’s episode of “Who Do You Think You Are?” on BBC One. Hoping to connect more deeply with his Jamaican heritage, Layton’s search begins in London, where he uncovers musical ancestors from his past. But the path soon takes him across the ocean to Jamaica, where a more painful truth awaits.
Layton learns of his great-great-great-grandmother’s life as a slave, a story that resonates with his own family’s experiences and shows the strength and resilience of his ancestors. The journey brings both joy and heartbreak, adding another dimension to Layton’s understanding of himself and his family identity. Layton will also learn about his great-great-grandfather, William, and his time in France during World War II. In Jamaica, Layton also locates the church his Great-Grandmother Jane attended as a child and learns more about her parents. He also discovers a distant relative he never knew about. Tune in to BBC One this Monday, May 12th at 9:00 PM GMT.
