Lifetime’s “Voices of a Lifetime” series continues its crusade to chronicle inspiring women’s stories with “I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story.” The biopic aims to capture the five-decade career of the disco icon, from her early struggles to her legendary anthem of resilience. Tony Award-winner Joaquina Kalukango takes on the formidable task of portraying Gaynor, while Lance Gross plays her husband, Linwood Simon.
What sets this biopic apart from the usual Lifetime fare is Gaynor’s direct involvement. Not only is she an executive producer, but she’s also providing an original song for the film. This level of participation suggests a more personal and perhaps less sensationalized approach than some other musical biopics. Robin Roberts also joins the team as an executive producer, reuniting with Kalukango after their successful collaboration on “Mahalia.” Alicia K. Harris will direct from a script penned by Jane Espenson and Njeri Brown.
“I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story” premieres Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 8:00 PM on Lifetime.
I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story is a Rock’n Robin production for Lifetime. Executive Producers are Gloria Gaynor, Robin Roberts and Linda Berman.
