The Russo family is back for the second episode of the evening, but this time the magical mayhem is infused with a touch of STEM. In this week’s episode of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, Billie’s robotics aspirations are thwarted when she fails to make the team. Naturally, her solution involves circumventing the rules with a bit of magical ingenuity. Enlisting the help of her trusty (and slightly daft) cousin Milo, Billie sets out to create a robot so extraordinary, so over-the-top, that it can’t possibly lose.
But as anyone familiar with the Russo family knows, their best-laid plans often go awry. The robot, imbued with more magic than mechanical sense, quickly becomes a source of utter chaos. The combination of cutting-edge technology and classic Russo-style wizardry makes for a distinctly Disney brand of disaster, sure to appeal to fans of the original series.
The new Wizards series manages to capture the same blend of family-friendly humor and fantastical situations that made its predecessor a hit. While the premise of a magically enhanced robot might seem a tad outlandish (even by wizarding standards), it’s precisely this kind of whimsical absurdity that makes the show so endearing.
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place airs Friday, February 7, at 8:30 PM on the Disney Channel.
