“World’s Toughest Drive: My African Adventure” tells the extraordinary story of Guy Deacon, a retired British army officer living with Parkinson’s disease. In 2019, Guy embarked on a remarkable solo journey, driving from England to Cape Town, a feat made all the more challenging by his condition.

This one-off documentary goes beyond the physical challenges of such an arduous trip, exploring the mental and emotional toll of living with Parkinson’s. As Guy navigates the changing landscapes of Africa, he also confronts the stigmas surrounding the disease. The film highlights the difficulties faced by many Parkinson’s sufferers in Africa, where cultural beliefs often lead to those with the condition being shunned by their families and communities, sometimes viewed as contagious or attributed to black magic.
