The wilderness was already a crowded place. Between cannibalism, teen angst, and the general perils of the great outdoors, the “Yellowjackets” had their hands full. Now, Showtime has announced that two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank is joining the already stacked cast for season three, premiering Sunday, February 16, 2025. The first two episodes will drop early for streaming on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME on Friday, February 14.
While details about Swank’s character are scarcer than a five-star hotel in the Canadian Rockies, her presence alone elevates the show’s already considerable prestige. As it stands I can only speculate how she’ll fit into the tangled web of trauma and questionable life choices that define the Yellowjackets’ saga. Will she be a fellow survivor, a figment of someone’s increasingly fractured psyche, or perhaps a wily wilderness guide with a dark secret? (Please, let it be the last one).
Swank joins a cast that includes Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and a returning Elijah Wood. Oh, and Joel McHale is joining the fray too.
Season three, comprising ten episodes, will presumably pick up where season two’s bonkers finale left off. Whether the show can maintain its delicate balance of mystery, psychological thriller, and dark humor remains to be seen, but throwing Hilary Swank into the mix certainly suggests an interesting gamble.
The first two episodes will be available to stream Friday, February 14 on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME.
