Yellowstone Season 5, Episode 9 “Desire Is All You Need” – Costner-less Conclusion Gallops Toward Cliffhanger

So, “Yellowstone” is back. Or at least, part of “Yellowstone” is back. What’s missing, you ask? Oh, just the central figure, John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner, who decided to trade in his Stetson for, well, something less dusty. The final six episodes of Paramount Network’s mega-hit are set to air beginning Sunday, November 10, at 8/7c (with a simulcast on CBS at 10/9c), culminating in a grand, supposedly cliffhanger-y finale on December 15.

The last time we saw the Duttons, it was a familial free-for-all. Jamie, in a fit of political pique, called for his father’s impeachment, prompting Beth, never one for measured responses, to issue some ominous threats. Rip and the cowboys were wrangling cattle in Texas (because, of course), while Kayce and Monica attempted to hold down the fort back in Montana. As for John Dutton? His fate remains as murky as a cattle pond after a stampede.

Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce, hinted to Deadline that the remaining episodes will focus on the family’s future without their patriarch. And what of Thomas Rainwater, played by Gil Birmingham? He teases a “cliffhanger” ending to Radio Times for this batch of episodes.

The delayed return of these final episodes is a tangled tale involving the writers’ strike and the aforementioned Costner conundrum. Prepare for the final ride, Yellowstone fans, though it might feel like a horse missing one of its legs.
