Dan Walker and Helen Skelton embark on an adventure along Yorkshire’s breathtaking coastline, stretching across ninety miles of stunning ocean views.
In this episode, they explore iconic locations and uncover hidden gems, starting with Robin Hood’s Bay, a quaint village nestled between Whitby and Scarborough. Below the cobbled streets, they reveal the village’s smuggling history with guide Brian Allanson.
Heading north, they arrive in Whitby, taking in the majestic abbey and meeting Whitby Jet carver Imogen Redvers-Jones. Helen detours to an 18th-century gamekeeper’s cottage turned tea garden, owned by Steph and Jack Newman, while Dan explores a ruined castle on the Mulgrave Estate, steeped in Yorkshire’s history since Viking times.
Back together in Runswick Bay, the pair join the volunteer-run Runswick Bay Rescue Boat, learning about sea safety. Helen meets blacksmith Katie Ventress, inspired by the coast’s natural history, while Dan collaborates with local painter Lynton Parmar-Hemsley on a clifftop overlooking one of Yorkshire’s prettiest villages.
Finally, they reunite in Staithes to judge each other’s creative endeavors and reflect on their journey along this captivating coastline.
