Published

on

The Carry On movies, from 1958’s Carry On Sergeant through to Carry On Emmanuelle in 1978 (lets forget about the ill fated Carry On Columbus farrago of the early 90’s) are as British as fish and chips and are a saucy seaside postcard come to life.

Stars like Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey, Hattie Jacques, Joan Sims and Barbara Windsor rightly remain much loved British icons, this epic picture celebration takes in all our favourite Carry On moments.

Nicole Kidman in Top of the Lake season 2 BBC 2017

The BBC have released the first official image of Nicole Kidman in BBC Two and See-Saw Films’ second series of the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated Top of the Lake.

The critically acclaimed mini-series is produced by See-Saw Films for BBC Two in association with BBC First in Australia, BBC UKTV in New Zealand, SundanceTV and Hulu in the United States, ARTE in France and BBC Worldwide.

Kidman will play an Australian mother, Julia, who’s story will intersect with Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) who is reprising her Golden Globe winning role as Detective Robin Griffin.

Top of the Lake: China Girl is a crime mystery story that begins four years on from the explosive ending of series one. Five years after the shocking events that rocked her hometown in New Zealand, Detective Robin Griffin, recently returned to Sydney, is trying to rebuild her life. When the body of an Asian girl washes up on Bondi Beach, there appears little hope of finding the killer, until Robin realises “China Girl” didn’t die alone. Robin’s search to discover “China Girl’s” identity takes her into the city’s criminal underbelly and closer than she could have imagined to the secrets of her own heart.

Top of the Lake season two

Elisabeth Moss is back as Detective Robin Griffin in the second season of Top of the Lake.

The first series of Top of the Lake won the 2013 Emmy® for Outstanding Cinematography for a Miniseries or Movie, as well as the 2014 Golden Globe® for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for Moss. Top Of The Lake also received recognition at the 2014 BAFTAs, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Critics Choice Television Awards, PGA Awards, among many others.

The critically acclaimed mini-series will once again be directed by Oscar® winner Jane Campion (Bright Star, The Piano), along with new co-director Ariel Kleiman (Partisan). Campion and Gerard Lee also return as co-writers of the second series. Top Of The Lake is being produced by Philippa Campbell (Rain, Top of the Lake series 1) and Libby Sharpe (Jewboy). Executive producers are Campion with See-Saw’s Emile Sherman, Iain Canning (The King’s Speech, Shame) and Jamie Laurenson, alongside Lucy Richer for BBC Two.

Top of the Lake: China Girl will broadcast on BBC Two in 2017.
