On Tuesday 11 April at 8.00pm on ITV, Jason Manford presents The Olivier Awards, the glitzy and star studded ceremony celebrating the very best in British theatre from the Royal Albert Hall.
There are performances from the nominated casts of School of Rock, Dreamgirls, Groundhog Day, Jesus Christ Superstar. Will The Girls and Harry Potter and The Cursed Child break records having earned the most nominations for a new play in Olivier Awards history.
Other contenders include Glenn Close, Billie Piper, Sheridan Smith and Tom Hollander, while Sir Kenneth Branagh will be receiving a special award tonight.
The Olivier Awards are presented annually by the Society of London Theatre to recognise excellence in professional theatre in London in an annual ceremony in the capital. Originally known as the Society of West End Theatre Awards, they were renamed in honour of the British actor Lord Olivier in 1984. The awards are given to those involved in West End shows and other leading non-commercial theatres in London. The Olivier Awards are recognised internationally as the highest honour in British theatre, equivalent to Broadway’s Tonys and France’s Moliere Award.
The Biggest Night in British Theatre: The Olivier Awards airs on Tuesday 11 April 2017 at 8.00pm on ITV.
