Culinary Genius is a brand new daytime competitive cookery series premiering on Monday 17 April 2017 at 3.00pm. Fern Britton – who presented Ready Steady Cook for six years from 1994 to 2000 – is the host of this high drama show.
Each hour-long episode sees nine amateur cooks head into a wrestling ring-style studio to do culinary battle. A different professional chef presides over the kitchen each week, demonstrating two of the tasks for the competitors and the audience at home.
Culinary legend Gordon Ramsay is first to take to the floor and the fiery foodie will be looking for speed as well as accuracy across three intense rounds. Battle One sees the contestants face a five-minute knife skills test. Nerves will be shredded as they are challenged to chop peppers, apples, fresh herbs, cucumbers and savoy cabbages before being judged by the professional chef on quality and quantity. The three weakest contestants will immediately be eliminated.
Battle Two focuses on precision and skill. This ten-minute test is all about preparation. A carefully chosen ingredient is revealed to the remaining six competitors. This week, they race to prepare salmon, pork steaks, chicken, duck and even lobster. Three more will be eliminated, leaving the remaining trio to face an exciting and thrilling cook-off in Battle Three.
Here the chefs must use the ingredient they have just prepped – and the studio’s stocked larder – to create a dish worthy of the top cash prize and the title Culinary Genius.
Phil Vickery, Rosemary Shrager and Jean-Christophe Novelli are the professionals for future editions.
Culinary Genius airs Monday 17th – Friday 21st April from 3.00pm-4.00pm on ITV.
