Gripping documentary series, The Detectives: Inside the Major Crimes Team, from the team who made the award-winning film The Murder of Sadie Hartley. Boasting extraordinary access to Lancashire Police’s serious crime squad, the three-part series, which premieres on Thursday 13 April at 9.00pm on ITV, takes an intimate look at some of the brutal cases the department faces every day.
In the first episode, Detective Sergeant Sheralyn Melton investigates the rape of a young mother in her own home. The assailant used the internet to get close to his victim, making contact with her through a dating website. It is up to DS Melton to gather enough hard evidence against the attacker to bring him to justice and a give a sense of closure to the victim.
Meanwhile, Detective Superintendent Andy Murphy goes in search of a killer, launching a full-scale manhunt when a man is stabbed to death near Blackpool town centre. Murphy has a lead, but it will take some considerable effort to track him down. The suspect, who has a previous history of violent offending, uses a number of aliases and is known to travel long distances to different locations to evade being captured. With the clock ticking, the team put everything they have into capturing the offender before it is too late.
