Kate Winslet narrates documentary Diana: The Day Britain Cried, airing on Tuesday 29 August at 8.0pm on ITV, and which looks back at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales.

It has been 20 years since the funeral, a day which was a defining moment in our recent history. One million people lined the streets of London to witness the procession in person, while 2.5 billion viewers around the world watched on television.

The documentary constructs a minute-by-minute account of that day, from her departure from Kensington Palace to her final resting place on her family’s Althorp estate. It tells the story of the ritual and pageantry of Diana’s funeral and those who were intimately involved talk – many for the first time – of how the decision were made. Archival footage from the time, some of which has never been shown before, accompanies their stories.

The documentary explores the details of that entire day, as well as looking at the wider impact of her death.

Diana: The Day Britain Cried airs on Tuesday 29 August 2017 at 8.00pm on ITV.
