Celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo travels back to his home country to explore the fantastic ingredients on offer along Italy’s beautiful coastline. During his 630-mile journey, Gino visits the regions of Tuscany, Lazio, Calabria, the Amalfi Coast and Gino’s home town of Naples.
He also visits the island of Elba and the Aeolians. Making use of some amazing local produce – and a little local knowledge – Gino creates plenty of delicious dishes, showcasing the best of the stunning Italian coast.
In this fourth episode, airing on Wednesday 22 November 2017, Gino travels to the ancient island of Elba. The island is most famous for being the exiled home of Napoleon, but it has other claims to fame – its honey and its iron production. Gino meets an octogenarian who is known as ‘the bee whisperer’, who creates award winning honey. Gino explores the now disused mines, where he experiences a piece of Italy’s history, and pays a visit to Napoleon’s house. Gino’s experiences on the island inspire this week’s creations – a honey chicken dish and an easy-peasy risotto cooked on a beach made of iron.
Gino’s Italian Coastal Escape Episode 4 airs Wednesday 22 November 2017 from 8.00pm-8.30pm on ITV.
