Grand Designs: House Of The Year 2017 premieres Tues 7 Nov on Channel 4
Kevin McCloud embarks on a nationwide journey to visit some of the most contemporary and cutting-edge homes, all of them in the running for the 2017 Royal Institute of British Architects House of the Year.
In each episode, Kevin exclusively reveals which houses the Riba judges have put through to the shortlist, and, in the final programme, he will announce the winner of this prestigious prize. Kevin is joined by architect Damion Burrows and Michelle Ogundehin, editor-at-large of Elle Decoration.
In this episode, they visit five extraordinary homes that draw on local materials and traditions: a remarkable 21st century shepherd’s hut in Scotland; a hand-crafted wooden home in Northumberland, based on local fortified farmhouses; a sleek, Modernist house in Bath, which echoes the colours and textures of its historic surroundings; a grand country house in Kent, inspired by local oast houses; and a delightful reinvention of the London townhouse. At the end of the episode one of the properties will have secured a coveted place on the shortlist.
