In the fourth and final episode of Great British Buildings: Restoration Of The Year, airing on Thursday 13 April at 8.00pm on Channel 4, Kevin McCloud and Dr Anna Keay present the nominees for the most modern category – buildings constructed in the 20th century.
Anna braces the wilds of Dartmoor to take in the granite heights of Castle Drogo – the last castle ever built in Britain – and to witness the restoration which has saved this fine structure. In Birmingham, architectural historian Dr Jonathan Foyle loses himself in the art deco glamour of the truly astonishing former Birmingham Central Fire Station.
And finally, historic building surveyor Marianne Suhr uncovers how a much-loved building in Newcastle has been rescued from the brink and stands proud once again. Kevin and Anna hear which building the RICS Judges have put through to the shortlist before the overall winner of Restoration of the Year is revealed.
