Joanna Lumley travels back to India, the land of her birth, to celebrate the great nation that it is today. In this final episode, airing Wednesday 19 July at 9.00pm on ITV, Joanna ends her incredible 5000 mile journey in the place where she was born – Srinagar in Kashmir.
Her journey begins in the Ranthambhore National Park, where she hopes to spot a tiger in the wild. She meets tiger conservationist Belinda Wright (pictured left) and sees the work of local NGO Tiger Watch, who are attempting to break the cycle of poaching and poverty by educating the local people.
Home to over 18 million people, Delhi is a city of stark contrasts. The extreme differences are obvious when Joanna visits a homeless community – where 10,000 men live under a flyover – and visits the modern area of the city where she tries her hand at working in a hi-tech call centre.
The final leg of her journey takes her north from Delhi to Dharamsala, where she is granted a private audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Joanna concludes her trip with a stay on a houseboat moored on Dal Lake in Srinagar, just as her parents did during their honeymoon in 1941
Joanna Lumley’s India Final Episode airs Wednesday 19 July 2017 from 9.00pm on ITV.
