Breaker Morant Premium Edition DVD Review
Reel DVD / Region 4 / Released October 7, 2010
One of the all time great Australian movies gets a prestigious two disc DVD and Blu-Ray release this month. With an all star cast led by the late great Edward Woodward, Jack Thompson and a young Bryan Brown the movie tackles a famous incident from British/Australian military history.
Written and directed by Bruce Bereseford and set in 1901 at the height of the Boer War Breaker Morant focuses on on the Bushvedlt Carbineers who are order to tackle the Boer and “take no prisoners” – a command that has tragic implications for Lt Harry “The Breaker” Morant (Woodward) when he, alongside two others (Peter Handcock and George Witton) is accused of murdering seven Boer prisoners, the three men though are the pawns of Lord Kitchener who is using their show trial as a bridge to brokering a peace deal.
A fabulous movie with a huge amount to say about the harsh realities of war and of mateship and courage – Breaker Morant still resonates very strongly today.
This two disc set also some very excellent extras including award winning doco The Breaker, a char with director Beresford and a photo gallery.
