Probably best remembered as both precocious twins in The Parent Trap, Hayley Catherine Rose Vivien Mills was born in 1946 to esteemed actor Sir John Mills and playwright Mary Hayley Bell. Her first screen outing came a year later, although Tiger Bay (1959) marked her first proper film role and won her the British Film Academy’s Best Newcomer Award.
Courted by Walt Disney himself, Mills rapidly became a studio stalwart and international star thanks to performances in Pollyanna (1960), The Parent Trap (1961) and That Darn Cat (1965), her final Disney film. Tiring of her goody-two-shoes image, Mills left the studio for a nude scene in Paul McCartney scored The Family Way (1966).
In later years, Mills has appeared in three Parent Trap TV sequels as well as low-key British dramas Back Home (1990) and After Midnight (1990).
