Leo McKern

Whether it is as “Horace Rumpole” on TV’s Rumpole of the Bailey, “Thomas Cromwell” in the film A Man for All Seasons or even as “Number 2” on that classic 1960s TV series The Prisoner, Leo McKern has always been an interesting actor in interesting roles.


Born Reginald McKern in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, McKern attended Sydney Technical High before heading to England in 1946 for a stage career that included a stint with the Royal Shakespeare Company. His films include Ladyhawke, The French Lieutenant’s Woman and Ryan’s Daughter.


One of Australia’s most recognized actors, McKern was awarded the Order of Australia for his services to Stage and Screen.
