Pat Hingle

Born Martin Patterson Hingle in Denver, Colorado, Pat Hingle was a protégé of Elia Kazan and studied at the famed Actors Studio in New York. His screen debut came in 1952 playing a bartender in On the Waterfront.


A prolific actor both on film and television, his roles include playing “Commissioner Gordon” in the Batman film series, and “Dr. John Chapman” on TV western Gunsmoke.


Hingle has also had an impressive career on the Broadway stage earning a Tony Award nomination for his performance in The Dark at the Top of the Stairs.
