A Little Big Business ITV Sitcom David Kossoff Francis Matthews

In sitcom A Little Big Business ambitious Simon Lieberman (Francis Matthews) begins working in his father Marcus’s (David Kossoff) traditional furniture workshop. Much of the humour stemming from the generation gap between father and son and Simon wanting to make the business more modern and Marcus being stubborn.

The series was created especially for Kossoff (who had become hugely popular thanks to earlier sitcom The Larkins). He worked in the furniture trade for many years and a lot of the plot ideas were suggested by his own experiences.

There was a pilot on 8 August 1963 which featured a mostly different cast. James Maxwell played Simon in that and the series itself had a couple of key cast changes between the first and second seasons. Diana Coupland played Naomi in the first season with Constance Wake taking the role in the second and Billy Russell played Charlie in the first run of episodes but was replaced by Jack Bligh for season two.

Season two dropped the A from the title, going out as Little Big Business instead.
