Beatles, The (ABC 1965-1967, Paul Frees, Lance Percival)

Much in the spirit of A Hard Day’s Night this popular animation had the fab four become the first living people to be turned into regular cartoon characters on Network: TV. The plots were inconsequential but the Beatles were at the height of their fame when the show hit the air. As the shows had at least two songs per episode pretty much all of the Beatles then catalogue made an appearance. Other than their music the Beatles themselves didn’t appear and had little creative input.

Made by King Features in both England and Australia the show was very popular until Space Ghost took over in the ratings. The songs on the show featured a kind of early karaoke with the words appearing on the bottom of the screen for people to sing along to.
